Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never been in therapy. What’s it like?

Therapy is a conversation between us.  It’s a place where you can bring all of your thoughts and feelings and discuss them in a non-judgmental space.  Sometimes you need a place to vent.  Other times you want another set of ears on a problem to get a different perspective.  Sometimes we discuss practical tools to help you in the moment, like mindfulness or breathing techniques.  And sometimes we take a deeper look at the things in your past that might still be unconsciously affecting you today.

How long is a session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long.

How often do I come?

Typically I recommend clients begin attending therapy once a week so as to progress at a good pace and not lose too much momentum between sessions.

Where are you located and are you meeting in person?

I am located in lower Westchester, NY, and while I had hoped to begin seeing clients in person in September, I have decided to hold off and continue teletherapy sessions for now.  It is my plan to return to both in-person sessions at a point in the future while also offering teletherapy for those who prefer.

Is teletherapy better or worse?

Well that depends!  I think teletherapy has changed this field for the better in that it has made therapy much more accessible.  You no longer need to leave work, or your family, to drive to a different location.  The convenience of teletherapy is amazing.  I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my clients and I can connect in teletherapy.  In fact, I have only received positive feedback from my clients who both transitioned, and started new with me, during teletherapy.  There is also something intimate about being able to provide therapy to clients in their own spaces.  I still love in-person therapy though and I miss being able to sit across from my clients in the same space.

Do you take insurance and what is your fee?

I do not take insurance however I can provide you with a monthly invoice (called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company to receive out-of-network benefits if you have those.  I am happy to walk you through that process.  My fee is $200 for a 50 minute individual therapy session.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

This is such a good and important question!  When looking for a therapist I think it is important to speak with a few different ones on the phone to get a feel for their style and personality.  Ultimately you want to be with someone you feel comfortable with and be with something you feel “gets” you.  I encourage open communication always, and ongoing, and if you do feel like something is “off” then please bring it into the session to discuss together!
